I loved this creative and beautifully-executed play from start to finish! Seinuk does an awesome job of establishing a consistent and vividly-rendered theatrical world populated by two compelling characters. There is a poignant symmetry between Ilan and Andrew's literal and metaphorical captivity, and I appreciated that, while there were clear parallels drawn between the two, it was always evident that each man's journey was unique, distinct, and respected as such. Structurally, I loved the contemplative but continuously progressive tempo and rhythm of the piece. I'd love to see this on its...

This tale of two captives is about symmetries and asymmetries and the deals we make with ourselves and others when we are desperate. The two men brought together through unrelated tragic circumstances, nonetheless prove hopeful allies to one another with the promise of paying it forward to others. This is high drama. I want to know why they are there, will they get out and what will they sacrifice as part of their struggle to survive.

I love this play... Its themes, its two characters, and their situation continue to haunt my memory. Very well done from beginning to end.

  • John Bavoso: From the Deep

I just finished reading this play on the Metro and almost burst into tears. I've been searching for examples of compelling and interestingly crafted two-handers and this is definitely one. The world Seinuk creates is so intriguing and it's mysteries and rules unfold in a really natural way. I can see a pair of talented actors really digging into this piece -- I'd love to see a production of this one day! This one's going to stick with me for a while.

  • Stephanie K. Brownell: From the Deep

In 'From the Deep', Seinuk tests limits and digs deep into complex characters extracted from their disparate worlds at a moment’s notice. Seinuk explores captivity both physical and mental through a deftly-crafted and unrelenting relationship. Dark, chilling, and deeply moving, 'From the Deep' is at its essence a play about hope.

  • Bridget O'Leary: From the Deep

This is a wonderful, thoughtful and complex two-hander. Seinuk has crafted a purgatory of sorts and we don't find out until the end where they are and what is really happening. The suspense is well crafted. The characters are incredibly layered. It wasn't a feel good play, but it definitely raised a lot of questions and stimulated a provocative conversation. I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a piece that packs a hard punch and gives actors meaty, aerobic roles.

  • Lisa Kenner Grissom: From the Deep

In From The Deep, Cassie deftly crafts a suspenseful two-hander which is no easy feat. Each character’s plight is sharply drawn and I find myself invested at every turn. Cassie creates otherworldly worlds and alternate realities that test our perceptions and challenge our ideas of freedom and captivity.

  • Kelley Holley: From the Deep

From the Deep is a beautifully constructed play that brings the audience to a world both terribly real and yet wonderfully imaginative (quite literally in fact). Seinuk focus is laser sharp as she brings the audience to a world where waiting is the game, and the idea what that waiting means (You're captured) is painfully honest, and rarely explored on our stages. The play is both a dream and a reality, unsettling and comforting, warming and chilling.

  • Ian Thal: From the Deep

From the Deep manages to be psychologically realistic despite being set in a rule-bound imaginary space. Seinuk deftly acknowledges the political and social realities off-stage without taking the focus off of the struggle that Ilan and Andrew face as they attempt to maintain their sanity.

I reviewed its first full production by Boston Public Works in 2015. My review can be found here:
