Karen’s a klutz. After getting into another car accident (on Halloween), her insurance agent gives unusual advice: she should visit a famous astrologer to find out why she’s so accident prone.
Karen’s love life is a mess. She’s attracted to Nick but he bores her to death. After another hook-up, she again breaks up with him and decides to visit the astrologer.
When Richard (the astrologer), tells Karen they are meant to be together, she freaks out. Still, when they run into each other at a forest preserve, their chemistry cannot be denied. Unfortunately, Nick intrudes on this moment.
Meanwhile, Karen’s sister, Laurie can’t seem to catch a break. Her co-worker is plotting against her (she’s not imaging this!) She hates her new job. And she can’t decide on the perfect paint color for her apartment.
Nick charms Karen again at a family gathering, and in a moment of weakness, she agrees to go on another date at a baseball game. Nick proposes at the game and Karen, confused and pressured, agrees to marry him. Richard, sad at losing Karen, decides to join a monastery.
Richard struggles in the monastery but makes friends with the Abbot (a wannabe stand-up comic). Karen struggles to forget Richard as she prepares to marry Nick.
A new Halloween and Nick springs another gimmick on Karen-- to get married as Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein. Karen finally breaks up with Nick, the same way she became engaged -- on television. Karen runs to find Richard but he has again disappeared.
Costumes on the beach. Richard and Karen run into each other during a Halloween fundraiser. Are they finally ready to meet their destiny? Although their future seems uncertain, during the play’s final moments, Karen decides to “take a plunge” into the icy waters with Richard.
