  • Michael C. O'Day: LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC

Hutton's evocation of a bygone era, and these two delightful young people making their way in it, is so wistful and charming that at first you don't notice the darkness of their world, the way their choices are hemmed in by forces and conditions they barely understand (and that the people around them barely understand). How they come to recognize and deal with that darkness makes for a lovely piece of drama - and a wonderful workout for two young actors.

This play is such a gem. I was swept away. I loved these people and I loved the story and I loved the writing. Ms Hutton knows these folks and you can tell. It's not sentimental but full of honest sentiment. Charming! (And it's hard to write "charming" and she does it very well.) After reading this, I'm glad to have known these people. They hold a forever-place in my heart now.

  • Doug DeVita: LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC

Charming and romantic, with two prickly but inevitably adorable characters any actors would give their eye-teeth to play, this is simply lovely from start to finish. Precise in its time and place, it is nonetheless easy to stage and deserving of its (many) productions. Maybe it's time for a revival?

Fantastic "meet-cute" type love story with beautifully drawn characters that tug at the heartstrings!

I really love this play! May and Raleigh’s unconventional “meet-cute” sets the story in motion and both characters have such rich inner lives it’s a joy to direct and a wonderful opportunity for actors. Totally beautiful character study!

A marvelous play about love and coming to terms with what one really wants for a fulfilled life. Well done.

I listened to a radio production of the first part of this play on Playing On Air, and it was delightful. I love the specificity of place and time in the play, and the characters' pain and struggles feel very real. It's a great script - give it a read or a listen!

I loved this play when I first saw it years ago, and I still love this play because the characters are so wonderfully idiosyncratic; because the play unspools in its own way with such an honest moment to moment truthfulness; because it's the kind of play that doesn't need bells or whistles to ring true.

I’ve had the good fortune of seeing this play more than once, and each time a new facet of the relationship between Raleigh and May reveals itself. This play is sweet, endearing and funny from the first scene on. We get to watch Raleigh’s boyish good nature and May’s pious wholesomeness grow and change as they step over the edge of youth and become aware of the complexities and imperfections of their lives and the world. It is no surprise this play has had countless productions. Check out the rest of the Nibroc trilogy as well!
