This play -- both economical and vast -- considers wide-ranging, deep notions, including what constitutes selfishness, how the faithful navigate their relationships to their faith leaders, and how money, in fact, changes everything. But the writing is so skillful you never feel any heavy effort; these characters are challenged and challenging, complex and loving and occasionally cruel; in other words, they are deeply human. I really, really enjoyed reading Silverhill.

Fascinating and revealing exploration of religion and the communal structure of our society. Must see!

Inspired by real utopian societies, "Silverhill" is a gripping period piece. Communism vs. capitalism, monogamy in the face of enforced polyamory, younger vs. older. A community far removed from us today, yet Gibbons is talking about issues and forces (religion, commerce) that affect us today. And it explores a philosophy that's an equally valid counterpoint to the "Prosperity Gospel" that's popular today.
It's on my "bucket list" of projects to direct in the future.
