Tara Obernier

by Carrie Barrett

Tara Obernier is a just your average gal until a seemingly harmless photo of a construction site launches her into the Internet’s crosshairs. Suddenly, her whole life—including her “janky eyebrows"—is under scrutiny. A dark comedy about fault, virtue and accountability.

In a world taken over by social media, it has taken over public opinion in a dark and vicious way. Revealing and well done.

It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Carrie Barrett and their play "Tara Obernier" as a finalist for our 2015 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one of 59 finalists out of more than 1,300 submissions, it is the value of the page that has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process. This play is incredible. It has something important and funny to say about the times we're living in and the dangers of social media on our perceptions of each other and ourselves. Carrie writes with such vibrancy and intelligence in not only this play, but in all of her work. I'm shocked that more of her work isn't up here. She's an incredibly talented writer whose work should be produced more than it is.
