This play had me at fondue.

To me, any objection to the purchase of cheese strikes me as shocking. But I do see how Jennifer could view Reynold’s grand romantic gesture as impractical.

But the ROMANCE of it!

Not just a fondue but This Fondue, the PERFECT Fondue…
One need only open one’s heart to see the joy of clogging one’s arteries… together!

Jolly guides us through the vividly realistic ebb and flow of martial discord, while providing history and context without stopping to feed us backstory. Instead, we feast on honesty, hard-won faith… and great cheese!

THE SECRET OF JARLSBERG is a sweet and funny and witty and at times ridiculous play by Arthur M Jolly. The writing is smart and keeps the audience engaged as we get a glimpse in time between a couple arguing about and somehow bonding over fondue.

Who knew the subject of cheese could cause such an escalation! This brilliant piece puts a lovely frame around the characters and gives you layers of subtext about what is causing the rifts in their relationship. The piece move along at a brilliant pace and brings you through the darkness and out the other side in a quick and witty look at how relationships can survive through the good, the bad and the cheese. Would be a great addition to any festival!

Cheese, the hilarious and ridiculously expensive obsession never funnier than in this play! Well done!

Aaah, the power of cheese. Arthur M. Jolly has written an entertaining play where cheese is the impetus for exposing the raw nerve of financial burdens in a relationship. The couple struggles over how to keep their relationship afloat when conflicting expectations over the 'proper way' to express loving care for their partner becomes the source of potentially undoing their bond.
