Fairies of the Moonlight follows the adventure of a “rebellious” teenager, Sunny. She crosses over to the fairy realm after she has a fight with her mother, who is a member of the punk group, Wilted Flowers. Sunny is chased by Pixies, into the “deep, deep” hole where she hurts her leg. Angus, an outcast fairy who’s been cursed into silence, rescues Sunny. His only friend, Maddie, (short for Medusa), helps him heal Sunny so he can ransom her to the fairy Queen Branwen. There are many comic moments centered on the “fish out of water” theme. Sunny knows little of magic and scoffs at its power until she experiences it herself. Lack of knowledge of the cell phone, music player, talk of cars makes Sunny think she has landed where the crazy hill people have met the Amish. As Angus’s feelings for Sunny confuse him, he begins to doubt his motives. Sunny becomes aware of Maddie’s love for Angus and tries to understand the loneliness that surrounds the ugly creature. The climax of the story occurs during the Moon bow festival which begins with music, dance and poetry and then builds to magical duel. Sunny’s escape or capture hangs in suspense as magic, betrayal, and sacrifice shape the events that catapult the characters into a life and death struggle. It’s modern fairytale that shows the importance of friendship and loyalty.
