Las Cruces

by Vincent Delaney

In the New Mexico desert, not far from the casinos and the spaceport, Sheridan is camped out, hiding in a gutted trailer. Everyone knows he's there, but no one knows why. Except maybe a card player named Soledad.

Winner of the New Play Award from Premiere Stages, NJ.

A captivating discovery behind the journey of a man trying to come to terms after a life altering act of destruction. Moving and well done.

I love this intense script with a touching level of humanity coursing throughout. In taking on the topic of school shootings, it looks at the aftermath from the perspective of the parents of the shooter. How does one go on after one's child has done something terrible? A journey through self-doubt, self-recrimination, and the rebirth of self-image. In a stranger's eyes truth lies. There is something beautiful about the interactions between a middle-aged man and a teen girl that aren't sexual in any way, but are far more intimate because a man's self-worth (perhaps his soul) is at stake.
