The Convent of Pleasure

by Adrian Einspanier

Margaret and Katherine are moving? Going back to the earth? Going off the grid? Starting a lesbian sex den (L.S.D. for short)? Or maybe just camping...? Ambitions of meadowy feminist utopias plagued by 17th century men, mortality, and ants.

It is so rare to see a piece of theatre that moves so in sync with the mind of its author, yet this one does. Making theatrical the wildly intimate feelings of overwhelming anxiety that plague many ambitious yet subdued women, Sarah Einspanier re-shapes the theatre in the image of the girls and women who she's seen and been her whole life. This is a powerhouse play, by a wonderful playwright and I look forward to seeing it again. --Seen at the Mentor Project Production.

This play is intimate and interesting and so so heartfelt. It was a treat to see it come to life in its first reading with Pipeline and I can't wait to see where it goes. Sarah hits something deep and truthful and a little frightening about us in this.
