I was already a fan of Alexandra Petri’s satirical column in the Washington Post, so I’m not surprised at how much I thoroughly enjoyed TRAGEDY AVERTED. As expected, the writing is intelligent, witty, and laugh out loud hilarious! A brilliant concept (Shakespeare’s tragic heroines at summer camp), completely engaging characters, and a story with real heart beneath the laughter. This is the only play from Petri available on NPX. Hopefully there will be more!

THIS PLAY!!! This clever summer camp comedy depends on the conceit that all of Shakespeare's young ingenues are essentially interchangeable - but in this piece, that couldn't be further from the truth. The play is full of witty, memorable, and well-drawn young, female characters with laugh-out-loud lines that will have you cackling out loud. Petri reframes our favorite tragedies as feminist campfire horror stories, forcing audiences to interrogate the tales we tell again and again. It's full of honest female friendships (and some very authentic... non-friendships) and familiar references from across the Bard's greatest hits. Smart and so much fun!

This brilliant play is so damn funny.

Absolutely HILARIOUS comedy with heart about Shakespeare's heroines at summer camp. The script is a delight, filled with witty references to the Bard. The pace is lightning quick and the jokes are tight. If you're looking for a strong script with an all-female cast, this is an absolute gem!
