Nice Victorian gothic piece. The characters are interesting and the story is unique. Great acting opportunities for actresses with some grit. Scientific experimentation in the Victorian age was rife with this kind of desperation. A challenging slice of life from a bygone era. Emma Carter amazes again with a truly one of a kind story. Brava!

A thought provoking look inside consent and three women who make a male their prisoner. What is it to be a woman and what lengths will one go to in order to turn the tables? Well done.

  • Katherine Gwynn: Wicked Creatures

"Wicked Creatures" is gothic horror where the monsters in the home aren't ghosts or beasts, but misogyny, ableism, and the denial of bodily autonomy--wholly human horrors. It deftly navigates complicated questions around consent, being a survivor of abuse and perpetrating that same abuse, and what it means to exists as a woman in the world. Though a period piece, it feels timely and sharp, and offers no easy answers.

Emma Carter is a witty, smart playwright with a wonderful feminine touch. Wicked Creatures does not disapoint in in expectation. This beautifully sad and interesting look at sexual consent turned on its head tells a wonderful story, and makes you question your own level of morals. "Would I be laughing at this if the genders were reversed?" is a constant question that came up in my mind. Any theatre that has the privilege of doing this brave and edgy work should consider themselves and their audience fortunate.

  • Kevin King: Wicked Creatures

“Wicked Creatures” is a fascinating play with strong fully-drawn characters. Carter’s tale gives us three complex women who will make you reassess your loyalties multiple times throughout this tightly-woven play. Each character is at various times an unknowing rube, a master of their destiny, a sympathetic figure, and the antagonist. Often all at once.

Carter juggles all these elements skillfully. It’s impressive and fun to watch and read.

  • Matt Barbot: Wicked Creatures

A taut, timely dark comedy about the politics of defining what it means to be in control of your own body. Three larger than life roles for women, acidic humor, a little bit of horror, and themes that resonate in the current political climate make this play one to keep an eye on.
