Recommendations of Caesar's Blood

  • Ken Love: Caesar's Blood

A history play inspired by real characters and real events. Wholly engaging . . . and, yes - deeply disturbing. I do not use the word "disturbing" lightly for the fact that the ordeal & situations which serve as the plays backdrop - if you will - are so striking & fortelling. History does, in fact, move cyclically, not in a straight line. Vivid characterization gives this work momentum. Nice job, Rich!

  • Morey Norkin: Caesar's Blood

Rich Rubin has created an outstanding work that manages to capture the tension of a particular moment in history that remains sadly relevant to our own time. Every character is a gem. The dialogue just sizzles. A great read and no doubt a great evening of theater.

  • Mark Loewenstern: Caesar's Blood

Was lucky to catch a Zoom performance and was much impressed with how Rubin conjures this historical moment making it credibly of that time, and also usefully relevant to ours. It is an engrossing backstage drama that is also a vigorous exploration of America's original sin. Worthy of more productions.

  • Aleks Merilo: Caesar's Blood

Once again, the playwright has managed to capture a moment of history that feels completely applicable to to our present moment. Brotherly compassion and sibling rivalry play out in the nearly regal backstage setting at Shakespeare's Julius Caesar". The play takes on what could be cumbersome with a sense of levity, and even a somewhat wicked sense of humor - Especially when the reviews arrive in Act two. But it never loses sight of the hatred, radicalism, and violence to come. The final speech sets the stage for destiny in a chilling reveal the audience will not easily forget.

Rich Rubin captures the era with his evocative language and finely tuned backstage look at the Booth brothers. The script feels even more timely now with American politics at a fever pitch.
