  • Tanya O'Debra: Methtacular!

This was my first introduction to Steven's work, and I've been a fan ever since. Methtacular! is a deeply moving yet raucously funny portrayal of addiction and recovery. If it's ever playing near you, run don't walk to see it. And if you have the power to put it on stage, don't hesitate.

A really honest and bitingly funny one man show with catchy tunes that wake you up a little. Steven really bares it all and shows how scary and dark addiction can be but at the same time his comedic and unique voice as a dramatist shines through. Exciting play!

A beautiful, hilarious, wild, intense, delightful 90 minutes that I am so glad so many people have gotten to see and I can't wait for more people to do the same.

  • Hayley St. James: Methtacular!

One of the funniest, heart-shattering, cathartic evenings of solo theatre I’ve ever had. Strafford’s story of overcoming addiction is person and raw and full of emotion and joy and darkness and every feeling in between. A gift on stage as well as on the page.

  • Nick Malakhow: Methtacular!

A propulsive, theatrical, raw, and deeply personal story that manages to pair musical performance/cabaret with hilarity and wrenching truths about addiction and recovery. The frenetic storytelling is completely engaging throughout and I loved the structural tempo changes at key intervals. I can only imagine that this would be a true tour de force to see in person. An important narrative exploring the intersectional nuances of addiction, gay male self image and hook up culture, and the life of a professional artist.

I saw an early reading of this play; I was blown away by it then, and reading it just now, I'm blown away again. So raw, so truthful, so harrowing, and so damn funny – it truly is a tour de force for Strafford (who was brilliant in the reading), and/or anyone else who may be lucky enough to fill his shoes. On stage, that is.

  • Toby Malone: Methtacular!

An incredibly raw, honest, open, and very funny account of addiction that is way more charming than it has any right to be. Steven Stafford opens right up and lays himself out for the audience to see in a manner that is cathartic and cautionary. With songs, jokes, and flair, this is a one-man tour de force.

This piece is a triumph in every sense of the word. Strafford balances his raw and honest battle with addiction alongside uproarious laugh out loud comedy (and we NEED those laughs). His use of language and his understanding of storytelling is masterful. This is a beacon of what a solo show should be. Absolutely stunning.

An incredible journey, raw and exposed, through addiction and a whirling of experiences until the breaking point of recovery. Truly extraordinary and important work!
