This is not Alice in Wonderland. It is a wild ride of an adventure story that borrows liberally from the book but takes it in new directions. The play takes place before, during and after Alice's infamous trip to Wonderland. New plot points, twists, travel through time, travel via looking glass and the nonsense that is Wonderland are smartly rearranged to bring us a new story with a lot more intrigue than the original. Packed with action, this play is ideal for young audiences and families of all ages.

Character Information

The cast is divided into 8 main roles, 11 supporting roles, and a 7-member ensemble.

The Ensemble is designed for flexible casting (as is most of the Supporting cast). Each Ensemble member plays multiple small roles, so if you have a large casting pool, you can use the ensemble roles to expand your cast above 26. If working with a youth cast, the ensemble roles are great for younger actors as most of them only have a few lines during their scenes, but offer opportunities for stage time and character work when playing more than one role.

  • Lacie
A modern-day Alice on a mission to save her sister. Pragmatic and logical. Handy with a sword when she needs to be. (Main character)
  • Charlie
Intellectually gifted and able to take care of himself, Charlie should speak with a northern English accent if possible (he's North Yorkshire, England by way of Daresbury - and 1849). (Main character)
  • Rabbit / Harry
The White Rabbit from Wonderland (in Lacie's world, he appears human); he can recite a verse as well as any poet, and he's decent with a sword. (Main character)
  • Hatter
The Mad Hatter. She should be around Lacie's age. It's better if she's slightly older. Wild and illogical. Keenly observant. (Main character)
  • Queen of Hearts
The Queen of Wonderland - she loves power, rules with a iron fist. Nice as can be, unless you cross her. (Main character)
  • The White Queen
Former ruler of Wonderland, she is a Chess queen -- dressed in white, she is poised, wise, and magnanimous. (Main character)
  • The Red Queen
Former ruler of Wonderland (she'll remind you if you forget), she a Chess queen - dressed in red, like a fun rich aunt. (Main character)
  • Cheshire Cat
Mischievous, aloof, and mysterious. Appears now and then along the journey as a guide, though not always a helpful one. (Supporting character)
  • The Red Knight
The feared right-hand of the Queen of Hearts; traitor to the Chess. (Supporting character)
