  • Ramsey Uhter: CYRANO ON THE MOON

A gorgeous edition that quite literally ascends our most beloved characters' endings into greatness. It's so refreshing to look over at Roxy and her view of things as well. In this epilogue, the beautiful poetic language is maintained, as is the love, magic, and mystery. Bravo.

A beautiful way to give everyone in the Cyrano story a happy ending, but more importantly, the lessons they may have missed before they passed from this life. This would be a beautiful piece to stage.

Monica Cross understands Cyrano, both the play and the character This play will serve magnificently, not only as a denoument of the Rostand, but also on its own virtues.

Cross resurrects Cyrano, Roxanne, and Christian, all to ask the questions they might have pondered in their life, and to summon the bravery to seek different paths. Roxanne drafts Cyrano's afterlife, and, ultimately, she could not have created a better one.

Cross has the trio face the hurts and fears of the former world and they find promise and possibility in the new. Very well done!

  • Adam Richter: CYRANO ON THE MOON

A fantastic, fantastical and wonderfully theatrical sequel to "Cyrano" that gives the heroes the ending they deserve, even if two-thirds of them didn't live to see the end of the first play.
I have always loved Monica Cross' playful use of language, and that is on full display in this brilliant play.

  • Jillian Blevins: CYRANO ON THE MOON

In CYRANO ON THE MOON, Monica Cross offers the pen to Roxanne, object of Cyrano de Bergerac’s idealized love. With two young nuns, she conjures an afterlife for Cyrano. Is it merely to memorialize him? To understand what she herself has lost? Or can Roxanne, through her writing, guide her lost love towards an understanding that will finally allow them to be happy together?

Uniquely theatrical and deeply felt, CYRANO ON THE MOON captures the spirit of its source material and puts Cross’ linguistic prowess and nuanced feminist perspective on full display.

In CYRANO ON THE MOON, Monica Cross imagines a sequel in which our heroes earn a happier ending in the afterlife in this magical, whimsical short play that still allows time for swash-buckling and romance. Delightful.

This is my JAM! I have been an ardent fan of a Cyrano since I was 6 years old. I use to call him Sir Nose. I carried a battered copy of the play with me through the Middle East when I was in the army and read it everyday. I have written and rewritten sequels, prequels, midquels- and this play is darling! A gorgeous tribute to an exceptional play about unconventional lovers.

It's been years since I read Cyrano de Bergerac, but I think this play ascends any need to know much about it at all, even if it does help. What are the stories we write if not acts of creation? Upon the moon, that shining symbol of romance, we cast our love and melancholy. There, as does Cyrano, we meet them both in turns. There's great fun in the fights and the imaginations Roxanne and the nuns gift us. It's a play of great fun, and Cross certainly left me with a pleasant warmth and a smile on my face.

I had the wonderful opportunity to direct Cyrano On the Moon in the 2020 Femme Fatale Play Festival. The story and characters is multifaceted and thoroughly engaging. I highly recommend.

"Cyrano on the Moon" is a piece of tremendous atmospherics and erudition from Cross, whose clear mastery of and passion for the original material allows her to meditate on the characters in refreshing ways. I was really taken with the thread of re-imagined histories: in our own hearts, it's easy to retread over what might have been once we recognize the defining moments in our life for what they were. I enjoyed the play's melting of the lines between past and present, fact and storytelling, all of which serve the play's central themes of memory and agency.
