A fascinating exploration of power, patriarchy and control in the porn industry. Compelling and well done.

A spectacular, nuanced, and sex positive play that manages to explore many aspects of consent, power, patriarchy, and sexual violence. Violet's journey is illuminating as the play shows her evolving sense of her own desires and relationship to her sexuality. I was amazed at how this piece both illustrates straightforward examples of consent and the building blocks to healthy sexual relationships while also showing how the enduring legacy of patriarchy, misogyny, and sexual violence perpetrated by men continues to distort and inform people desperately trying to move past such toxic and abusive structures and behaviors. Incredibly done and impactful!

Playwrights Foundation enthusiastically recommends this play, DIRTY DIRTY, as a Semi-Finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2020. We were moved by the quality of the writing and the relevant and compelling themes that spoke to the mission of our festival. It excelled in a competitive process of 735 plays submitted this year and rose to the top after a six month long process discussing its merits with both national and local Bay Area readers, and we hope it moves swiftly towards production.

The relevancy of this play cannot be overstated. As our society only begins to scrape the surface of generations of sexual trauma brought about by patriarchal practices, we long for the quick fixes and the shining beacons of hope. This play dramatizes that desperation through the lens of the adult film industry, a stepchild of the entertainment machine and a marvelous metaphor for our attempts at sexual healing

A thoroughly captivating play. Enthralling and watchable without ever giving in to the crass or sophomoric aspects of it's subject matter. Gijsbers van Wijk creates thought-provoking dialogue about sex-positivity, the vagaries of consent, and the place porn has in a post-MeToo world.
