A magical explorative play that captures the fear that cuts us off from the possibilities and connection in the world. Well done.

  • NICOLE PERRY: The Glass Piano

This is a witty and heartbreaking grown-up fairy tale about the role and rules that we play and must play by when it comes to love and duty. This play is laugh-out-loud funny, while confronting our tendency to judge others, while making exceptions for ourselves.
I have the pleasure of being the intimacy director and choreographer on the US premiere of this play. Because of my training perspective, I also see a theme of trauma's effects on the body.

  • Callan Stout: The Glass Piano

The Glass Piano is a play full of images that spark delight and full of shattering heartbreak. This play tells the based on a true story of a Princess who thought she had swallowed a glass piano and the familial turmoil around her. Told whimsically, but with great emotional depth, this is a magical play. I’m so glad I was able to see an early workshop, and that it’s now getting productions.

  • Samantha Cooper: The Glass Piano

"The Glass Piano" is an incredibly charming take on a fairy tale that all at once feels modern and historical, fantastical and truthful, magnificent and delicate. Within each character archetype, the personal and relationship arcs are strong and nuanced. Sobler delves deep into the intricacies of the search for love, the scary vulnerabilities of that emotion, and the dangers of cutting ourselves off from connection. The magical nature of this piece would be a joy for any production team and actors.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: The Glass Piano

Beautifully written and conceived fairy tale about trying to keep the world from flying apart even after it has flown! Here is a great metaphor that is at once adventurous, strange and comforting. It will make a fantastic show! So theatrical and so much to love!

  • Stephen Foglia: The Glass Piano

The Glass Piano is such a lovely play. A winning harmony of artifice and piercing emotional truth. The world feels at once inviting and fresh, smudging the border between reality and fairy tale. Sobler's characters are big -- they have to be to contain their enormous desires -- but never so large that we lose sight of the nuance in their relationships. The images are so rich they feel they must have always been there waiting for a writer to bring them to stage. A treat for adventurous theatre-makers and audiences.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Glass Piano

I love this fantastical fairytale about the limitations that are imposed on us either by ourselves and others. I love the way Sobler writes these theatrical period pieces that feel like they can be done on a grand scale or so simply. The stage directions feel like appreciated challenges for adventurous directors and designers.

  • Aeneas Sagar Hemphill: The Glass Piano

A truly moving, magical piece. It deals with such weighty, mature themes with an irresistible charm and sense of wonder. Delicate, but not precious. Whimsical, but grounded. And funny! Its fantasy world feels intuitive and precise, while offering many possibilities for directors and designers.

  • Matt Barbot: The Glass Piano

An over-the-top fairy tale with real heart and heartbreak. Sobler creates a world where no one is really who they say they are... or is it that what we say we are is all we have? A uniquely funny, poetic play with a lot of wonderful design opportunities.
