Claude Cahun, born Lucy Schwob (1894-1954) was a writer and photographer associated with surrealism. In 1937 she moved from Paris to the Isle of Jersey with her partner and step-sister, the artist Marcel Moore (born Suzanne Malherbe). After the German invasion and occupation of the island in 1940, the two women embarked on a courageous path of resistance. The play is a dramatic enactment of their arrest, death sentence, and confrontation with the German authorities. In every scene they show their indomitable spirit, humor, and love for one another. They are freed when Jersey is liberated on May 9, 1945.
