Recommendations of One Time

  • Nora Louise Syran: One Time

A lovely two-hander for older actors. The plot starts in media res and the frank, abrupt jump into the characters propels the tension of the play until the conclusion when all becomes clear. Until then, we're on a back and forth sharing of personal, private and dramatic stories ("One time I...") of two people getting to really know --and re-know-- each other. Easy to stage, natural dialogue. Bravo, playwright.

  • Cassidy Byron: One Time

Very interesting characters whose relationship is so intimate and yet we never quite understand it, and they never really do either. I loved watching them talk around each other and never really listen, and how naturally the conflict arises from that. A simple basis for a character-driven play which was enticing to read.

The characters in this show are compelling and real. I saw a reading of this and was intrigued the whole time. I particularly liked the development of Sonia's journey: a woman who has undergone trauma, but who is still strong, smart, and funny. I look forward to seeing more of Richard Lyons Conlon's work.

A wonderful two-hander. Smart, funny, and romantic. We need more playwrights like Richard Lyons Conlon, who can take a sincere premise and unpack it into many funny and dramatic moments. If your theatre is looking for a well-dressed, razor-sharp comedy-drama, an audience pleaser that leaves you wanting more, you’ve found it.

What a charming, touching two-hander from Richard Lyons Conlon, with two wonderfully prickly, but endearingly human characters whose stories weave a tale spanning more than thirty years of love, loss, and regret. Terrific roles for older actors.
