In this raucous free-wheeling comedy inspired by the Marivaux farce by the same name, three-time Oregon Book Award winning playwright Andrea Stolowitz creates a hilarious new play about love and winemaking in the Pinot Noir laden land of the Willamette Valley. Successful Strategies is set on a vineyard just before the grape harvest and follows three couples falling in and out of love, into the arms of others, and then eventually back to the the one they truly love. The play asks pointed questions about the nature of love, its staying power over time and why it hurts so much all while creating a delightful parallel to the specificity of the world of wine making. An extremely funny comedy, Successful Strategies delights the heart and mind.

A marvelous discovery of love and the meaning of it all that truly sings from the vineyard! Well done!

Just saw the world premiere of this fun play at Oregon Contemporary Theatre. Stolowitz builds comic momentum from the get-go, with delightful, engaging characters stuck in a tasting room of a vineyard in Oregon's Willamette Valley. There are plenty of laughs, but the writer doesn't shy away from the 'what does it all mean' stuff, too. I like her sense of place, the development of her female characters and the way she brings in the unexpected. Brava!

Andrea manages to update the farce into a wonderfully contemporary modern setting. She manages to capture the spirit of Marivaux's work with classical elements dusted off and reimagined in a lively world. Her characters are utterly endearing. This is one I look forward to seeing fully produced.
