Trick or Treat, Seriously

by Kris Thompson

Apparently Bob and Shirley's new neighborhood takes Halloween more seriously than their previous neighborhood. They have been warned, but who knew running out of candy could have such serious consequences?

This is a lovely bit of Halloween-themed fun. There's plenty of humor throughout, but the slowly increasing sense of dread warning the audience (if not Bob) of imminent danger makes this short play an effectively creepy read.

A fun holiday-themed take on the extent to which we take seriously our routines, customs, and roles. The character dynamics are clear and entertaining, and the suburban community is well established even though we never leave the living room. I would love to watch this in an evening of 10-minute Halloween themed plays. It's entertaining and memorable.

Hilarious Halloween two-hander that completely nails and skewers the suburban Halloween thing, but Thompson's play also has a delightful and unexpected twist at the end that's also very funny. This would make an excellent addition to any holiday-themed fest and would be fun on its own too.
