Recommendations of Immortality Crisis

  • Nick Malakhow: Immortality Crisis

Pine has created a deeply unsettling and infinitely fascinating theatrical world here! The well-rendered characters have distinct voices and unique and individual baggage. This piece works both as straightforward storytelling as well as a broader, figurative examination of trauma, widespread social and existential anxiety and despair, and the cyclical feeling of living alongside mental illness. The stage images in this piece are extremely evocative, and there's much here that directors, designers, and actors could do to really leave their imprint on this piece. Tough but really worthwhile...

  • Ian August: Immortality Crisis

Wow. Mr. Pine has written an intense, powerful examination of the damage of trauma. His characters are supremely flawed, but undeniably human. IMMORTALITY CRISIS is a compelling play--it will keep you on the edge of your seat--and it is enormously emotionally affecting. A difficult, challenging topic excellently rendered. WOW.

  • Playwrights Foundation: Immortality Crisis

Playwrights Foundation enthusiastically recommends this play, IMMORTALITY CRISIS, as a Semi-Finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2020. We were moved by the quality of the writing and the relevant and compelling themes that spoke to the mission of our festival. It excelled in a competitive process of 735 plays submitted this year and rose to the top after a six month long process discussing its merits with both national and local Bay Area readers, and we hope it moves swiftly towards production.

I was lucky enough to catch a reading of this play at Benchmark Theatre's Fever Dream Festival. It's quite a ride. A smart, savvy, reflection on life and death, it pulls no punches when it comes to the depression and violence rampant in our society today.

  • Laura Winters: Immortality Crisis

This play was an cool, accurate-feeling sci-fi portrayal of what would happen if everyone had a reason to take living for granted. Emotionally disturbing, visceral, and intense.
