  • Aly Kantor: The City in the City in the City

Two bodies, no set, one prop, poetically spare dialogue - and yet somehow the playwright evokes an entire brilliant world (within a world within a world). This script is packed with mystery and humanity, and the form itself says a lot about the content: we are individuals but - for better or for worse - we are not alone. The two performers shift between characters quickly enough to give you whiplash, but as the play goes on, you begin to understand how the storytelling works and fall in love with the rules of this world. This play is wholly original!

A touching and beautiful adventure as these women embark on the journey of a lifetime. Gripping and moving!

Imaginative, smart, funny, and touching, Capodicasa's gripping two-hander takes you on a wild journey that ultimately speaks to the small mysterious things that connect us all.

  • Chas LiBretto: The City in the City in the City

I love this play. It's mysterious and strange and a wonderful showcase for two actresses. Echoes of Borges, Calvino, and Kafka but entirely it's own thing. I'm dying to see it. Matthew has the rare ability to create total worlds in his writing and plays like this make me eager to get lost in more of them soon.

There are some premises than make you raise an eyebrow. But when that premise is being handled by a playwright with the talent of Matthew Capodicasa, you know you are going on a journey that is both hilarious and tender. He captures both so well in these characters that you ache to know more, but the enigma in the human condition much like this city is one where the mystery enhances your appreciation of the play. Read it again and again and I promise, you will draw new information, and new conclusions each time.

I absolutely love this play. A mischievous, contemplative, and utterly engaging piece of writing. I savored so many lines, I wanted to write them down but I was too engrossed to stop myself. I'm just so impressed by its exciting originality and brilliant creativity.

  • Jessica Moss: The City in the City in the City

Lyrical, beautiful, melancholy, theatrical, funny and sad at the same time...I loved this piece so much and it's everything theatre should be.

  • Heather Helinsky: The City in the City in the City

Vivid, intense, fluid storytelling. It's hard to replicate the feeling of the first time you read ARABIAN NIGHTS or ALICE IN WONDERLAND, but this one will take you down the rabbit hole. This play will make you feel both overwhelmed by the city, lost in the crowd, but also an individual who has the right to laugh & grieve. This piece deals with loss and abandonment; I feel in good hands with Capodicasa's poetic writing. Audiences will purchase a ticket to Mastavia, and after visiting (if they can find their way out of the labyrinth), will leave cathartically changed.

  • Joanna Garner: The City in the City in the City

This is one of my favorite new scripts. It's a wild ride into an ever-shifting world populated by characters you won't want to let go of. With its expert balance between narration and action, the play is like stepping into a captivating and moving thriller of a novel.

  • Jeremy Gable: The City in the City in the City

An enjoyable imaginative modern-day journey with two dynamite roles. It's hilarious and beautiful, often in the same breath. There's no part of this that wouldn't be an absolutely blast to stage, design, and act.
