  • Playwrights Foundation: The Well-Tempered Clavier

Playwrights Foundation congratulates THE WELL-TEMPERED CLAVIER as a Finalist for BAPF 2020. This play rose to the top 35 out of 735 plays submitted, and was discussed at length by our Bay Area Literary Council for consideration in our season. We loved how this play uses the language of theater to illuminate challenging perspectives and compelling intersectional questions. This play ultimately moved & inspired us and spoke to the core mission of PF. We hope that once we’re allowed to return to our theaters again, it will be considered for production to reach new audiences.

  • Rachael Carnes: The Well-Tempered Clavier

With dialogue that leaps off the page, compelling - and hilarious - characters and situations, this play deftly explores how an intergeneration family lives their lives within the idea of America. A workshop at the Sewanee Writer's Conference resonated with the play's tremendous humor and heart. There are many layers here to explore, in a world full of specificity and universal appeal.

  • Jessi Pitts: The Well-Tempered Clavier

A beautiful look into some of the most crucial moments in a family's timeline; this expertly crafted play addresses the differences in the way that multiple generations and even siblings within the same generation experience cultural assimilation in their own way. Garvin's family rings with such clear truth in every detail of their relationships to each other and to the changing world around them.
