A powerful look at an urgent crisis and the call to care for humanity. Well done.

An exquisite piece! Freddy is a fantastic, compelling nucleus around which the play orbits. I love how, despite the hugely high stakes of the piece once Agnes arrives, Palmquist's plot unfolds with tension, yes, but also with nuanced and complex character development instead of overwrought tragedy. The central moral question of what is the right thing to do vs. what is the letter of the law is so sharply and perfectly dissected and explored here. Each character's words ring with truth and naturalism and also with moments of lyrical beauty. How I'd love to see this onstage!

Just like her play TWO DEGREES, the personal and the political are blended with painterly strokes.
Palmquist's THE WAY NORTH shows us empathy in action - that's the stuff of drama here - it's so reviting. You'll lean forward reading this on your laptop.
There's an optimism here, a hopefulness that we urgently need now in theatre. Thank-you.

I saw a reading of The Way North at The Road theatre in Los Angeles and am not at all surprised to see how far this play is going. Tira has crafted a beautiful, poetic and poignant story with such clear place, characters and stakes. I saw the reading months ago, but can still see all the images in my mind. That's what her work does, it evokes specific pictures, settings and people- brings them alive. The Way North is a play for today- about the politics of today, told through the characters with such heart.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this extraordinary play? It is moving, beautifully written and should be produced immediately. I am so glad that is was selected as an Honorable Mention for the Kilroys List 2019. So well deserved!

I loved this play. I was captivated by the urgent situation and the two strong women at the helm of this story, and the poetic language and imagery of the North Midwestern landscape painted a clear picture of the world in my mind. It also brings up the timely issue of refugees without preachiness or easy answers. I hope I can see a production of this moving play in New York soon!

As a part of our Play-by-Play series, "The Way North" had our audience leaning in. It's a play that effortlessly weaves the urgent present and past pain. It's poetic, relevant, and well paced — besides being unique in content with original characters and a timeless moral core.

This play is wonderfully layered. Lacing together stories of survival, love, and the harsh truths both of nature and the world we live in. While grappling with relevant questions today, THE WAY NORTH is also super funny throughout, Palmquist is excellent at using humor to cut the dramatic tension of a scene. There's a pressure that builds throughout this play, with a completely earned ending that knocked my socks off. I saw THE WAY NORTH as a reading, and would love to see it fully produced. So well done.

Well-drawn characters struggle with a timely and urgent dilemma. I enjoyed reading this play and would love to see it performed.
