The Hombres

by Tony Meneses

A look at the intimacy of male relationships told through the point of view of Machismo culture, The Hombres follows Julián, a gay Latino yoga teacher, as he clashes with the Latino construction workers working outside his studio, particularly the older head of the crew, Héctor, who seeks from Julián something he never expected.

I just saw THE HOMBRES in a solid production with a superb cast. What an engaging, surprising story that grows as the evening progresses. Rich acting opportunities for an ensemble of Latinx male characters. Highly recommended.

I adored this script! Yes, yes, yes. It feels so vibrant, current, and frank. I was living for the displays of male friendship, the explorations of anger, and the pride that can be found even in the most dehumanizing jobs. The Hombres is also extremely well titled: it’s not just The Men, but men together, as a unit, and their responsibilities towards each other. The metaphor of construction (we’re all trying to build our world) paired with yoga (we all need to rest) was extraordinarily human, and unifying. Five stars.
