Perfect example of the dynamic structure of the ten minute play. High motivation, exceptional characters and a powerful story with a beginning, middle and end. If you want an audience to see the way it should be done - this story is the one to use. This will work on stage and provide an opportunity for actors that is rarely to find. DC Cathro gives us a master class and we all have a meaningful session. Thank you!

There's lot going on in these 11 pages. Gina wants to be on a TV reality show. Buck doesn't want her to go to Los Angeles for the required two months. As he gives her every excuse for her to stay with him, she gets more determined to leave. The tension builds throughout, and the realization of what their dynamic really is, is devastating. A super play in a small package, with roles the actors can really dig into.

Holy forking crap, that’s drama: the stakes, the excitement, the obstacles, the conflicting needs and agendas, the ugliness, the hopes, the fears, the drive-by flashes of exposition, the painful truth of it all - all in a few short minutes in a small trailer home. Edge of your seat stuff from DC Cathro, that satisfies on its own and leave you itching to know more.

11.16.24 - I was holding my breath as I read those last few pages. I know Gina is a fictional character, but brought so vividly to life by DC Cathro's writing had me pulling for her so hard. At one point, Buck seemed to have her wavering on her resolve and I was internally saying "NOOOOO!" That's great writing, when you can elicit that strong a response in a reader. I want a sequel!

DC Cathro offers an intense look at a struggling young couple at a crossroads. Gina, who is the breadwinner of the two, has what could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Her partner, Buck, protecting his male ego, isn’t having it. Both seem determined to have it their way. I’m rooting for Gina and I desperately want to know what happens next!

Can folks like Gina from the Georgia or any place rural these days make it big? Or does living paycheck to paycheck make that always impossible? With a dynamite spirit, desperate and struggling Gina thinks she's got what it takes -- and you'll love her for it.
I'd love to read what happens next!
Recommended for any festival showcasing dramatic shorts.
