A tapestry of a play, woven through time and magic. I see man's hubris and confusing a desire to conquer being confused for a real desire for love. Where men don't see how the pain they inflict on one another and themselves is felt doubly so by the women who love them and are left alone, feeling invisible in their pain. I can see this being an incredibly beautiful film, too!

I've heard the song that this play is based on and I love it! Karen Fix Curry takes us on a medieval journey full of magic, unrequited love and action. Perfect for high school competitions or community theatre programs. A complete delight!

  • Lee R. Lawing: The Rowan Knight

I saw a zoom production of this by Crafton Hills College and what an incredible tale this is . Curry's The Roman Knight is cautionary tale of what can happen when one witch steps beyond her magical means and intervenes with a Knight who has suffered a serious battle wound. The production was at times funny but always thought-provoking as Curry did mention that this play was on about mental illness and you can see that with Sir Rowan after he is saved by the witch.

  • Nicholas Thurkettle: The Rowan Knight

A haunting grown-up fairy tale of a mutually-tragic love, deftly evokes a folkloric world where humanity at its most brutal borders a world of majestic but dangerous magic. The world evoked by the writing is usefully scale-able to either a minimal or more robust production scenario.

  • Larry Rinkel: The Rowan Knight

In this 1-act atmospheric tale of a medieval knight rescued from death by a witch whom no one else can see, the witch comes to regret her decision to save the knight who doesn't love her and casts him aside to suffer through numerous lifetimes. Centuries later he achieves a momentary reprieve through the kindness of a descendant. Karen Fix Curry's tale achieves the ends of good folklore by suggesting that even though a world of witches and fairies may not literally exist, the fantasy of humans interacting with them can lead only to harm on both sides.
