Berryman's writing is sharp, filled with unexpected twists and turns and each character's humanity shimmers throughout the play. With every nuanced complication and conflict that arises, we're asked to journey deeper into questions of purpose, hope and futility. This is one of the most spectacular sci-fi plays I've read and I can't wait to see it produced and adapted!

A friend recommended Walden to me, and I am so grateful they did. A beautiful sci-fi play that explores sisterhood and our dying world. I would love to see this show at a professional theatre. I highly recommend giving it a read!

Incredible and thoughtful, I've been thinking about this play for weeks now.

This beautifully constructed play delves into the hearts and minds of two sisters, both making impossible life decisions that could ultimately save the planet. While the questions it poses of space colonization are not revolutionary in science fiction, the relationships between the sisters felt all too real and reflective of our own times and choices. It has stayed with me and continues to resonate.

A beautiful story of our responsibility to the world and ourselves, a lesson in hope. Well done.

Walden by Amy Berryman was a finalist for NNPN's 2020 National Showcase of New Plays.

This is ultimately a play about hope, even though the world it takes place in (a world that is not that far from ours today) feels all but devoid of hope. Climate change, family baggage, a touch of sci-fi, all swirling around questions of responsibility to ourselves, to each other, and to the world at large.

I read this play and interviewed Amy about it for my podcast (Play-Mates: Find Your New Favorite Play!) and it is such an insightful look into climate change, sibling dynamics, and the fight between saving our planet or colonizing others. So moving, and definitely inspires the audience to do their own research on space exploration and climate change!

A moving, well-observed play which uses science fiction as a backdrop for the examination of a prickly sibling rivalry between. Cassie and Stella are at turns warm and resentful towards one another. Richly detailed and emotionally resonant, Berryman is wonderful at taking both science fiction tenets and interpersonal drama seriously to eye opening results.
