I loved getting to know and work with Imani during our residency at the Echo -- Hoboloboactive is an intense, gritty observation of survival in its purest form, riding the line between animal and human instinct.

This play doesn’t hold back. Bringing to life an often-overlooked community, Redman’s play is made entirely of sharp words and harsh realities. Hit the Pavement or, Hoboloboactive is a play about surviving on the streets, trusting no one, and making the hard decision to protect yourself or the ones you love. Redman’s play does not compromise in its mission to teach its audiences a lesson in sacrifice and the fault in being a passive observer.

There's nothing soft about this play. All sharp angles and fuck you's, Imani pulls no punches drawing up a world where young people fight for survival and have no one to please. The language and rhythm of this piece is vibrant and exciting, and it has multiple beautiful little nuggets of relationship and moments of connection.

I had the privilege of working with Imani through the NYPR program and seeing the reading of this play at Echo. Her use of rhythm, language and space immediately sucks you in, and you will want to stay long after the play has ended because of its vivid characters. An important play that blends comedy and tragedy together.
