←Recommendations of Crazy Quilts

This short, darkly funny, and impactful play left me thinking about the shared experiences that unite us. What it means to be invited into a group in which we would rather not qualify to be a member. Karen Fix Curry's dialogue is lively, and the pace of the play feels light, which is a lovely juxtaposition to the subject matter.

What seems to be a benign interview of the members of a long-standing quilting circle evolves into something darker and richer in this surprising narrative. It turns out that the members of the circle are bound by so much more than quilting. I found myself thoroughly in support of their real M.O. as the young reporter is welcomed into the circle.

Perhaps the quilting circle in Crazy Quilts is not a group you want to belong to if it will have you as a member. The criteria for admission is not something to be desired. Karen Fix Curry has created an amazing misdirection as the quaint tale of a quilting group morphs into something quite disturbing. An outstanding dark comedy, simple in its presentation, but with writing sharper than any quilting needle!

This is a well crafted journey. Amazing what a good quilt can cover up. A treasure trove of characters. A bit of whimsy wrapped around a slightly sinister, but well meaning, group of hobbyists.

Super! Tight characterization. Splendid pacing. Visually simple and yet hits you with a punch. Lots to learn from here, thanks! (This was the first play I've read on NPX and I'm delighted to be able to recommend it)

Taking such a dark subject as domestic violence and wrapping it in this quilt of brilliantly crafted characters is a total work of genius. This piece is a salute to the bonds of sisterhood in dark times and the strength of women. Brilliantly created and would be a wonderful piece for actresses to protray.

Who knew that lethal comes in such sweet packaging? Four women who share a secret ban together to help another woman in distress. “Sometimes bad things happen on little islands.” Karen Fix Curry did an incredible job at crafting this short play where “sweet” turns to “deadly” execution style. I just finished watching Crazy Quilts livestream and I had to go back to watch it two more times.

Karen Fix Curry skillfully reveals the connection between the ladies of the Crazy Quilts group, while so gently and cleverly drawing you into an unexpected, jaw-dropping story! Justifiably wicked, hilarious, and compassionate all wrapped into one brilliant play! Highly recommended!

WOW. I didn't see that coming. What a well-crafted ensemble piece. You think it's about one thing and it turns about to be about something big - the best kind of writing. Kudos to Karen Fix Curry for writing this marvellous short play. It gets performed everywhere and I can see why. Karen, I'll be looking askance at those quilts you show off on Facebook from now on! :-)

Wow! What a powerful representation of a dark and often hidden issue. This play really draws you in, like being party of a private, intimate group. Just when you're getting comfortable, it hits you with a stark and unexpected ending. Well done!
