Recommendations of LETTERS TO SALA

  • Jeffrey James Keyes: LETTERS TO SALA

I was absolutely blown away by this script. Arlene Hutton’s smart structure and powerful storytelling reveals Sala’s experiences in a way that is engrossing. I’m impressed with how Hutton weaved in the letters and first hand documents to further elevate the story at hand. I love the care and reverence with which she took when building this story. I wouldn’t be surprised if this great work of drama doesn’t become one of the most produced plays of all time. Outstanding work!

  • Rachel Luann Strayer: LETTERS TO SALA

LETTERS TO SALA is a powerful piece of history and a tribute to the written word. Based on the true story of a young woman who volunteers to take her sister's place in a Nazi labor camp, this play highlights the dark realities of every day life during the Holocaust. It also asks important questions about sharing our personal histories when they come to have important significance to the world at large. The courage of Sala's determination to save these letters throughout her imprisonment is boldly beautiful. Thanks to Arlene for bringing this stunning story to the stage.

  • Mike Solomonson: LETTERS TO SALA

A highly theatrical examination of true historical events related to the Holocaust and its aftermath. Arlene Hutton's blending of the present and the past makes for a memorable intertwining of multiple generations and how they choose to remember those they love and have lost.
