    I was lucky enough to see a reading of "CJ" as part of Milagro Theatre's Ingenio Festival in September and highly recommend it for further production/development opportunities. Mercedes expertly navigates between different worlds in a story that incorporates 4 different languages. Her writing is fiercely loving, generous and beautiful.

    YOOOOO Mercedes does not play with this play... yep. Seriously, this is a unique work, an experiment of sorts that works on almost every level. A necessary show, a risky show, and if done right a historic one. AKA Producing companies, develop it!!!

    A brilliant challenging work. Written with such heart, with such a great ear (and hand) for language. This play actually uses FOUR languages (Spanish, English, ASL and Nahuatl.) and weaves a story fluidly with them. The way a deaf woman is treated by her own mother will break your heart.
