Somewhere in America, a town is about to be jolted awake by news crews and police tape. Something terrible has happened at a local gay nightclub. Shelley, a devoted mother of one, receives a frantic phone call from her teenaged son, Steve. He begs his mother to pick him up as soon as possible. A little after midnight, Shelley returns home, covered in blood. Neither she nor her husband, Scott, have located Steve, but their phones refuse to cease ringing with calls from reporters hoping to get a scoop.
Later that evening, Steve’s best friend, Zach, arrives at the house to try and comfort the family. As the night drags on, Zach thinks back on the months leading up to this fateful night, and tries to hold on to only the best memories of his friend. Language fails everyone as they’re confronted with grief, loss, love, hope, and even addiction. Together, these three people must piece together their lives while agonizing over one question: Did Steve survive?
