How is it I'm feeling so educated about cosmic phenomena and ruthlessly (though affectionately) mocked all at once? Oh, it's because I just read RIPPLE, this delightfully funny, weird, and informative play about the nature of black holes...and actors. Excellent metatheatrical fun here from Rachael Carnes -- plus, you know, it's totally based on true events! Ancient, ancient, ANCIENT events. So that's a bonus.

A spectacular intergalactic preparation of theatre that is just so entertaining and so much fun. Well done!

What is the best way to represent two black holes colliding over a billion years ago? Put some moody actors scared of intimacy and a half baked director on stage and let em' orbit.

I admire RIPPLE for all of it's weirdness, it's metatheatricality, and it's commitment to a joke/commitment to science. It's dumb (in the best way). It's smart. It's a great 10-minute script.

Think people have a hard time with intimacy? They got nuthin' on black holes. I don't know of another playwright who can infuse astral phenomena with human qualities -- fear and insecurity, specifically -- and make it not just whimsical, but sly and smart. Not to mention funny. Then there's the loving send-up of theater itself. Carnes has a unique gift of being quirky and crafty in the same moment, and "Ripple" is a perfect example of that. Wonderful piece!

Hilarious meta-theatrical play! Whether it's a metaphor for human connection or a deep exploration of the limits of humanity or just weird and silly fun, I adore this strange concoction Ms. Carnes has dreamed up all the way to the link for the sound cue at the end!

It takes a special playwright to reimagine a super massive cosmic event as a rehearsal for a 10-minute play. It takes even more creative pluck to recast two black holes on the verge of merging as two actors (people, essentially) wary of the vulnerability and intimacy required of them onstage. You have to listen to the sound effect linked to at the end of the script. An amazing coda to an amazing play.

Rachael Carnes has a wonderful knack for packing hard-hitting messages under layers of symbolism. RIPPLE is no exception. Two black holes colliding becomes a wonderfully smart and poignant exploration of onstage intimacy and personal limits. It's simple and clean and would be a delight to work on. #PlaywrightPlug

Once again, Rachael Carnes contributes eight pages of inspired silliness. Two black holes about to collide, who may or may not also be characters in a play, who may or may not also be characters who are gay, who may or may not be directed by another character whose hair may be grey. Or Einsteinian white. (I mean his name is Albert and he speaks with a German accent, hint-hint.) One thing is for sure, you need some pretty massive actors for the two main parts. Or maybe not.
