Recommendations of Type 1

  • John Busser: Type 1

What an eye opener. As someone who's both diabetic (Type 2) and had his insurance constantly changed on him due to company renewals, this play really hit home. In this country, the price of life-saving drugs is so overpriced it's ridiculous. People are dying so someone's bottom line is improved. Cole Hunter Dzubak hits the nail on the head here. I want everyone to see this play to see what is literally playing out at pharmacies and hospitals everyday right now. Maybe some change can be made to the point where this is the ONLY place you'll see this happen.

  • Kitty Harper: Type 1

A tragic insight into the American Health system and mistreatment of patients. I'm not American, and respect and feel for those who suffer under these conditions. I have type 2 in the family, and if we were US citizens I can't imagine how things would turn out. Very well written.

  • Debra A. Cole: Type 1

For those in the know, this short play hits home. A tragic situation for countless Americans, TYPE 1 gives a voice to the injustice.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Type 1

"You're making a scene"...well you know what? Some things are worth making a scene over! Cole has taken a horribly tragic but very real issue about the cost of medical care and is making you see. Its compelling, loaded with tension and will have people talking about it afterwards, I know because I speant half an hour discussing it when I'd finished reading it. There are certain things horribly wrong with this world and they are worth making a scene about. That is what Cole has done here, made a brilliantly constructed scene!

With "Type 1," Dzubak achieves a feat that isn't easy: saying a lot in a short time, while tackling an important issue that isn't talked about nearly enough. Greatly appreciated the gender flexibility in casting. This would be an excellent addition to a short play festival!

  • Ryan Kaminski: Type 1

A thoroughly engaging short play that addresses an issue a lot of people aren't familiar with. Great compelling characters, intricate dialogue, and a surprise ending. Well done!

What I like about this play is there is no easy, feel good ending. It puts it on the audience to take away the importance of the theme. A nice little piece to remind us of the consequences of the real world.

  • Evan Baughfman: Type 1

Nice dialogue, with something really important to say!

A ten-minute play that both allows and acknowledges questions and complexity, while it also simply gives space for its lead to express pure, desperate anger. Through the short burst of conflict between two characters, Dzubak highlights the tangled and broken system beyond the choices of any individuals who are trying to protect themselves and their loved ones within it.
