Fairytales were cautionary stories on how to survive. What I love about this script is that it takes that central core & transports it to modern day. We're not imagining a peasant in a wood, we're looking at poverty (financial & emotional) in modern America. The menace in this desert is just as creeping as the forest's shadows. Magic in fairytales is an allegory, and I couldn't help but think of what "show mom" influencers do to their children for fame and wealth. A remarkable, timely script!

I enjoyed reading this so so so much! The tone invokes an American Gothic vibe that colors the whole play with both humor and dark irony. I am a huge fan of magical realism so I enjoyed Pitt's worldbuilding and tribute to both urban and folk tales.

The first scene of D&T grabbed me by the neck and didn't let me go for the next hour and a half. A gritty look at a families' dysfunction and desperation, Pitts' adaptation of Les Fees is exciting, poignant, and bitingly funny. The characters of Fanny and the Mother will be coveted by actors for years to come.
