The Vampyr

by James Wilkinson

13 min. Hotel maid, Jolene's, shift ended hours ago, but she's refusing to leave, much to the chagrin of Clarice, the front desk clerk. It's late at night and the two are talking. Clarice is trying to work, despite Jolene's annoying presence. Jolene claims to have seen a vampire attack in the hotel. Clarice doesn't believe her, but there might be some truth to her story.

Eerie in the best way possible! Wilkinson is an awesome writer who follows the "less is more" formula to a T. No physical vampirism is laid out for us to see in this ten-minute, which is what makes the tension all the greater. Reminiscent of some of the best horror, a la Shirley Jackson or Val Lewton. I'll be keeping my eye on this playwright!

An astonishingly creepy (in the best sense of the word) play in which the tension builds and builds and builds. Two great roles for women.
