Such a fun short play that pits sister against sister and realm against realm - with an ironically unsuspecting, third-party, psychic caught in the middle. And a perfect, pregnant ending, too, to button it all up!

This is the kind of lighthearted comedy with slightly dark overtones that were very common in another era but less so today. I don’t think it’s because audiences like them less; rather, they may take more effort to write to get the tone and cadence right. I really enjoyed it!

Part “Blithe Spirit,” part Whoopi Goldberg in “Ghost,” this little slice of fun and frolic pits two sisters against each other from across the afterlife. The laughs come fast and furious, and the characters are rich and vibrant. This recipe calls for some seriously silly fun and serves it up with a cup of tea >wink<.

Ah, sibling rivalry. A love/hate relationship that in this case is literally taken to the grave. Emily McClain cleverly illustrates what a series of misunderstandings and ego can lead to. Anyone involved in the production or who has the opportunity to see it performed will have so much fun!

SECRET FAMILY RECIPES is a charming 10-minute play. Emily McClain takes something as grounded in reality as a family cook book and mixes it all up with something as extraordinary as a seance! So many choices can be made in production regarding the efficacy of "Madam Christie" and the rivalry of the two sisters. This play lovingly invites collaboration and interpretation.

This script is pure fun: sibling jealousy and a strong conflict/need at its core, distinct characters and precise dialogue added in to the mix, and an environment and actions that put it over the top. An audience will be surprised and delighted throughout.
