American Underground
ROG African-American, male, forties. Husband, father, and an Anatomy & Physiology professor at a community college. He has a largely upbeat persona that masks a deeper melancholy. He’s intelligent and thoughtful, but also a man of action – Rog is involved in the underground. He’s a moral and courageous man who can also be prudent and cautious when necessary.
ANNA Hispanic, female, forties. A librarian, wife, and mother. Fiercely protective of her family. She possesses a “won’t suffer fools” demeanor at the same time as a palpable sensitivity and compassion. She’s a deeply moral person involved in the underground. Can sometimes be overprotective of her son, Jeff.
JEFF Half-Hispanic/Half African-American, male, twenties. The son of Rog and Anna. College student. On the cusp of childhood and adulthood, Jeff feels things strongly and in powerful ways that can often escape his control. He’s got a chip on his shoulder and wants to be treated as an adult without necessarily possessing the requisite maturity.
SHERRI Middle Eastern, female, early to mid-twenties. Sherri’s been through a great deal but has managed to somehow remain functional through sheer force of will. She’s been on the run for a long time and seen more in her short lifetime than most people ever will. One day she may unravel, but she can’t afford such a luxury right now.
KOURTNEY White, female, forties. Works for the government. Fiercely intelligent with great poise and self-control. She projects a genteel politeness that masks her viciousness. She has the kind of cold cruelty that, through to lens of ideology, can be re-framed as righteous resolve and purposefulness.
