Poetic and powerful, exquisitely crafted and theatrically stunning ... brava!

An incredibly moving play that tells the emotional journey of one woman as she bares her soul to us. Beautifully done.

At the end of this moving monologue, I wanted to crawl into the little tent that Imogene had created. This piece reeks with yearning and disappointment and love...powerful love. Love that makes you weep to think about. It's wistful and truth telling. Keep writing, Lindsay. Leave the real jobs to others.

How I long to take this script back with me in time and use it to help me speak my mind to everyone I have ever loved--friends, boyfriends, family. "I crave that gentleness," I would quote. And I would show the passage about being too vocal and pushy about my affections, that if I didn't speak it, it would be secret. This is a lovely show filled with lovely language. Filled with longing and hope and attempts at healing. With hoping an avoidant will choose to stay. Filled with all my hopes for love. It's wonderful.

Yes! This is a beautiful play that is so moving because Partain chooses to be so incredibly vulnerable as Imogen tries to connect all the dots between our families of origin (and their knowability and unknowability) and our families of choice - how we form and maintain relationships as adults. This is an incredible journey with wonderfully theatrical language.

I just saw UAB’s gorgeous production of this tender, lyrical piece that shows off Partain’s gift for writing beautiful words that feel both lovingly crafted yet free of artifice. An exemplary solo show and a gift to actors. Highly recommended!

Unbelievably visual. The language Partain uses is somewhere between poetic and narrative, but always with an eye on the theatrical. This piece is simply heavenly. It evoked so much emotion and memory for me that I felt as if Partain chose to include snippets from my own life. Beautifully written. I would love to see this performed. Wonderful work!

This show was the inaugural workshop with our organization and it was a perfect fit! Lindsay is a deeply intuitive and emotional playwright who poured her heart into Imogen.

This play balances stunning poetry and language with a raw emotional expression. With a simple set up, this play unearths the ties between our home, our family and our lovers. We absolutely fell in love with this show and were always brought to tears by the end of this tight show. Working with Lindsay was a pure joy and this show is a knock-out!

Powerfully accessible and poetic, revealing depths of self-awareness and healing. An ode to writing itself, to transitions and possibilities. A reading of the piece with Portland's New Play Project lifted the narrative into a dreamy, pull-no-punches place. Brava!

I saw THE WAY YOU MADE ME at the Femme Fatale Play Festival. Lindsay Partain has created raw language, pulsing with emotion. This play is full of loss and trauma, but still finds a way to bring us hope and joy. It is masterful. It is a play that you lean into, that you can feel engulfing you. Absolutely powerful!
