Recommendations of The Targeted

  • Troy Heard: The Targeted

Ugh! This horror story gets under the skin, literally and figuratively. It's a whiplash ride through conspiracy theories with characters more relatable than most in the genre - with plenty of dark humor to leaven the experience. It's on my short list.

  • Playwrights Foundation: The Targeted

The community of national & local readers for the 44th annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival enthusiastically recommends THE TARGETED as a Semi-Finalist this season at Playwrights Foundation out of 755 plays. We were deeply moved by the artistic merits of the structure and character development. We're compelled by the play's promise, as it explores levels of trust among a marginalized community. We hope this play is widely read, finds dedicated collaborators, and moves swiftly towards production. #BAPF2021

  • Lauren Sheely: The Targeted

I absolutely loved this play. The subject matter (especially our preconception as a society with conspiracy theories) feels incredibly timely. Stylistically the play is sly; while the beliefs these people held are absolutely unbelievable for me personally, I did find myself rooting for many of them and empathizing with their experiences of paranoia. I appreciated the playwright's lens of empathy for these characters, and found the play thought provoking and compelling. #BAPF21

  • Nick Malakhow: The Targeted

A powerful and unique play that examines a cross-section of people I haven't seen a theatrical story about! I love how Kime rendered these characters with a great deal of care and respect, plumbing their emotional depths and complexities even as they articulate theories and ideas that have made them pariahs among the "social norm." Eric and Mia's dual journeys are fascinating, and the examination of social factioning, mental health, outsidership, stigma, care-taking, and family is thorough and nuanced. Jeff's hilarious and, at times, distressing interjections punctuate and rhythmically shape...
