A revealing glimpse of a me too experience as three individuals come to find what their relationships have been and are. Well done.

  • Andrea Kuchlewska: Mentors

Hilarious and spot-on. Cuts right to the heart of #metoo, with plenty of nuance and compassion for all three expertly drawn characters. Speaks directly to our moment as it brings multiple perspectives to the questions of where the line is drawn between free speech and harassment, between sensitivity and over-sensitivity, why it matters, and if you can ever really figure it out. Another gorgeous Kristen Palmer play.

I saw an online reading of Kristen Palmer's script as part of Kane Repertory Theatre's New Play Lab. The play asks interesting questions about the nature of mentoring. In some ways each of the characters serve as mentors to each other in different aspects of life, and part of that involves navigating power dynamics. The play makes you contemplate the potential successes and failures of serving as a mentor to another person.

This taut three-hander in which a college acting professor visits two former students. Over the course of a dinner and too much wine a discussion of his current situation—under investigation for inappropriate behavior with female students, but not sexual assault—causes the couple to look at their past experiences with him through a new lens. The way the woman comes to understand her relationship with this professor is startling, and the way her husband can ALMOST let go of his male worldview but doesn't quite get there, is heartbreaking.
