We're Here

by Megan Rivkin

The Island” - a lovable jerk - wants to prove that we all still talk. They hold a shady ticket salesman and an extravagant theatre-going woman hostage to demonstrate. We’re Here is a fifty-minute surreal play set in scenic Midtown, Manhattan. We’re Here includes sex, love, allergies, sadness, wealth, family, (big) apples, acting, and maybe even sex. This is where you are right now.

I had the pleasure of seeing the play at the Harrisburg Fringe Festival. The play is an experimental trip that wraps you in surrealism and holds you close.

Rivkin's command of language is superb and is certainly a playwright to have your eye on - I know I will.

Rivkin has delivered a gem. With this play the present world of Man and the world we hear from Woman can clash but also mesh into one another. I particularly love the nature of of Woman and how she's found a way to be open and vulnerable to these strangers of Midtown. This part would be an honor for any actor.

Loved this play. Loved how people just meet each other in New York and how in this play THE ISLAND is in charge of connecting people. Absurd dialogue and a real gut-wrenching ending.
