Recommendations of Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library

  • Doug DeVita: Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library

I recently saw this at Luna Stage, and I'm so glad I did; a gripping, tense, and intelligent game of cat and mouse set in 1933 Berlin, it is a political thriller that resonates quite strongly with what is going on today. Highly recommended,

I had the great pleasure of reading this play and then seeing it on stage at 59E59. Bader's smart dialogue and clever choices lead to a fantastic political and strategic dance between the two main characters. This play should be seen everywhere!

Saw this at 59E59. Wow! What a knock-out. The story of a very young Hannah Arendt's arrest by the Gestapo and the intellectual wrestling match that follows is both terrifying and satisfying. So deftly rendered and absorbing.

This is one terrific play. Bader does an amazing job of sharing little-known history without getting "all historical." Clever, intelligent and insightful. Very much worth a read.

  • Stephen Kaplan: Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library

I saw this play in its production at Luna Stage and it was wonderful. Riveting, topical, fascinating, haunting...a story that needs to be told and Bader's command of the language and tension throughout is masterful. Wonderful roles for all three actors and very easy to produce. The audience was incredibly diverse and every person was on the edge of their seats and the discussion continued after the final curtain.

I adore this play and find it to be an extremely relevant play to be reading and producing right now! The relationship that happens on stage between Frick and Stern is edge of your seat suspenseful because Bader has created such high stakes. Each step of the way, much like a tense chess game, there is so much to consider. Layer upon layer we uncover so much about totalitarianism as we also experience how it can be unraveled, how we become human to each other.
