Recommendations of Gidion's Knot

  • Christian Flynn: Gidion's Knot

I always think there's value in something that's disturbing or transgressive in a novel and boundary-pushing way. This is a play that goes there — in a way that most playwrights beside Martin McDonagh, Sarah Kane, and Mark Schultz generally only hint play at. What's on the surface is just a decoy, a twist in the titular knot. The real play is in the brutality behind it all

One of my favorite two-handers that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. A unique approach to people dealing with a loss in different ways. Would love to see a production of this!

A powerful look at coping with the unimaginable and discovering the truth behind the loss of a mother and teacher. Well done.

  • Jonathan Josephson: Gidion's Knot

I saw this play years ago and it's stayed with me, vividly and viscerally. It's a tough play, not exactly for the "Singing in the Rain" crowd. This is a brilliant piece - prophetic and provocative in the best possible way. It's a play to devour, discuss, think over, argue over, be haunted by and ultimately thankful for.

This is a taut, charged and exciting play. It is a terrific example of powerful drama that can yet be simply and economically produced and also be loads of fun for the director and actors.

I waited a few days before saying anything to anyone about ‘Gidion’s Knot,' but mostly all I was thinking was, "thank you," for a superb drama. The script is, frankly, my kind of show. I can’t think of a Drama better than people at opposite ends fighting for their version of the truth. The more you think about the implications a child's actions have on the outcome of the two people whose job it is to take care of him, the more you realize there is to chew on for actors.

I had the pleasure of seeing GIDION'S KNOT front-row at Pillsbury's Theatre in Minneapolis after reading it.
One of my favorite two-hander plays of all time, perfectly-structured.
This play builds with an intensity of emotion and thought that will keep your audience intrigued and switching sides many times.
It's a gut-wrenching play, disturbing, overwhelming at times, but it's necessary theatre for our difficult time.
If you're considering producing a play on bullying and school violenxe, consider Adams' play.

A well-written, disturbing, and fascinating read! Adams gives us a great example of a tension-filled two-hander that unfolds in real-time so organically that not a moment seems wasted or contrived. I enjoyed the space for body language to tell the story--that makes this a director's and actor's playground. The setup is potent and the two characters believable and sympathetic, even as they bristle against one another and against my own opinions and values. I'd love to see this staged!

  • Ross Tedford Kendall: Gidion's Knot

Effortless writing creates this tiny world, where two women impacted by a tragic event try to come to terms in their own way. The playwright presents both sides fairly, while tapping into a larger theme. This is theatre at its finest.
