  • Brenton Kniess: Ashes of the Revolution

This ten minute play by John Patrick Bray just evokes pure heart. The characters are well drawn and executed beautifully. The dynamic between DeDee and Amelia is honest and genuine. This play is sincere, respectful, and heartfelt. Really enjoyed this!

What an incredible play. Both from an artistic standpoint and as an empowerment play. You find yourself rooting for both Amelia and DeeDee and Calvin and their parents and everyone that's anyone to these two characters. The genius is your left to figure out who the antagonist is in this play. I think it's me and my prejudices, but to someone else reading/seeing this show it might be someone different. I love this show and highly recommend it.

This is a very sweet snapshot of siblings being there for one another, in the dark of night and mind. Children listen, and in this case, will act to keep the darkness away in the best ways they know how. Absolutely charming.

I commend Mr Bray for this fine play with autism as its central theme, for he has handled this sensitively, including the note at the beginning. DeeDee is convinced that Russians are spying in his garden, and his sister does her best to quash his fears. This reminds me of the TV series ATYPICAL, screened here in the UK too. I truly think this play could be used as an Autism awareness show. (My wife works in care, with some who have autism and she agrees, she says it's spot on.) Very good!

Lovely. Crystalline: the love the two siblings share, their unique perspectives of the world, the atmosphere of the night air they're both ready to plunge themselves into for the sake of the other, the owl-themed pajamas of wisdom... Favorite line: "Mom’s gotta stop listening to Fox News around you."

This is a sweet, fun play about the burdens we don't realize we're putting on our children. Lots of heart and great moments between these two young people.

  • Scott Sickles: Ashes of the Revolution

There’s a moment when you discover with absolute clarity What Has Been Going On This Whole Time… and it is joyous! For the reader, anyway. One can see why DeeDee is none too pleased about it!

The literal-minded among us will see this as a love letter to our misunderstood childhoods. It’s also a tiny paean to our allies who had to work to understand us, gently explain the gaps in our interpretations of the world, and stook by us in the dark while we leanred to relax.

Great roles for young actors. Beautifully atmopheric. Exquisitely tender.

  • Dave Osmundsen: Ashes of the Revolution

Very charming, very silly, and ultimately very sweet play about two siblings who will protect each other at all costs. Bray gives a few stray clues as to what their right-wing environment is like, and it's clear how much this environment of fear and paranoia has impacted the two children. Despite this, Bray keeps the piece lighthearted, and it's easy to fall in love with these two characters. Sweet play!

Complete charming, witty tale of two siblings bonding in a gentle, effortless manner as well as a sly satire of the over-sized paranoia parents inflict on their children. Clever and fun.

  • D. Lee Miller: Ashes of the Revolution

ASHES OF THE REVOLUTION by John Patrick Bray is a beautiful play of the love of a brother and sister. The brother has autism and is a sincere ball of love hoping to protect his family from a revolution. The sister's core is love, too, and she knows how use illusion and truth to protect her brother as only a sister could. Their vulnerability and connection is a sight to behold. I love this play.
