d/o/b highlights the stories of two different generations of lesbians in the United States. Told in tandem, the 1950s generation focuses on the first lesbian organization, The Daughters of Bilitis, and their founders having to grapple with a McCarthy-era world where their discovery could mean the end of their livelihoods or worse. The modern day story focuses on living in a social media grounded world where exposure goes hand-in-hand with our “Trumpian” political climate. Each generation faces its own challenges regarding their own queer existence, when their worldviews are challenged, can they persevere and push forward?

This is a strong, beautifully ambitious and sophisticated play with dual storylines set that kept me at the edge of my seat as the stakes were so high for the lesbian characters in the 1950s. What courage the women showed despite human frailty and fear. The contemporary storyline intelligently contrasts the relative privilege queer women now experience at the same time that Trump's doctrine of hate pervades every aspect of their psyche. A play with historical significance, flesh and blood characters you care about, and provocative themes.
