A fascinating piece contrasting a hopeful creation myth with the cold reality of immigration politics. Great roles for versatile performers.

Urgency is at the center of this play--both in how powerfully it pulls the audience in to the characters' journey and in how it shines a spotlight on continuing present-day injustices.

Absolutely beautiful piece! It marries the grandiosity of myth with the everyday specificity and intersectional identities of the specific humans at the center of this--Xenia and Luz. The storytelling is propulsive and fast-paced and this is an exciting piece to put my "director brain" to work on from a visual and aural and design standpoint. Jordan tackles weighty and current and relevant themes in a fabulistic way. The level of remove makes the connections to current day immigration issues visible and potent for a wide spectrum of audiences.

I had the absolute joy of reading this play for the Student Jane Chambers Playwriting Competition. En Las Sombras is compelling, beautifully told, and is an exemplary work for feminist values and roles for women and queer folx. This play speaks to the heart of the issue of detention centers at the border through the use of allegory, metaphor, and cultural references. A brilliant work!

A beautiful feat of storytelling. A captivating story of family, adventure, and the bond of siblings that cannot be broken. Ramirez Puckett brings a myth to life to speak to truth to the current state of the world and those who seek a better life for their children.

In En Las Sombras, Ramirez Puckett weaves together a captivating myth and the real and defiant love between two young siblings Xenia and Luz. This play makes the poetic political and vice versa. With all of its heart, En Las Sombras demands to be performed soon and often, and any theatre should run to heed that call.
