What a wild ride this 10-minute piece was! I saw a reading of the piece at the playwright's memorial service earlier this afternoon. The pile up of reveals lurking inside Carolee's Closet just build one on the other on the other and Marjorie was able to craft a poignant statement about life passing you by and the necessary steps of growing up, all while landing joke after joke after joke in expertly timed, yet completely unexpected ways. Marjorie Bicknell is a treasure, and always will be.

Magical realism at its best. It uses extended metaphor to show many years in just several minutes. It was interesting, funny, and poignant. Also, there are no adult language so a good piece for a public school or competition. Thank you, Marjorie!

What starts out as a familiar confrontation between mother and daughter soon leads to dredging up of old wounds and grudges. Then, we're taken into the Closet as Mom pulls out more to support her old and repetitive arguments. But, the tide turns and the Closet soon produces unexpected surprises that ultimately turn the tables on Mom. Enjoyable! Surprising!

I wasn't at all prepared for what came out Carolee's closet--and I'm glad I wasn't. Marjorie Bicknell takes the controlling mother/independent daughter conflict to its absurd ends. But the humor isn't for laughs alone. I ended the play questioning what it means "to take care of" another person--whether that's a spouse, a child, or a parent.

What a quirky and funny short play. We'd all like a closet like that in which to keep our secret wishes. this is a clever short work that would please audiences in any festival. What fun!

What a perfect controlling mother vs. independent daughter conflict! Carolee is clever and finally finesses herself away from her overbearing mother, and we are rooting for her 100%! Bicknell turns the surreal into the believable. A wonderful short comedy!

Oh my gosh! Such a hilarious play about the next chapter for this tight knit mother daughter pair. Sure to be loved!

There’s a lot going on in Carolee’s closet, besides all of her hopes, dreams, and plans she’s hidden from her mother in there for years. An absurdly surreal comedy, Bicknell makes one laugh not just from her hilarious premise and punchlines, but also from the underlying pathos of Carolee’s plight, which allows us to be invested in the way she slowly but surely turns the tables on her prying, overbearing mother.
